West Java and East Java: Comparison

There are two largest provinces in Indonesia today, namely Java Tumur and West Java. In terms of population, West Java is very prominent. Its population reaches 49 316 712 people. Nearly 50 million people. This means, one province of West Java is equivalent to twice the population of the country of Australia (25 milions) or three times the population of the Netherlands (17 million) or eleven times the population of New Zealand (4.8 million).

The population of East Java who occupies the second position amounts to 40 million (39.7 milions). It is also very large, equivalent to the population of the large country of Argentina (43 millions).

West Java province is relatively more prosperous than East Java. The poor population of West Java in September 2019 was 6.82 percent compared to East Java which was 10.20 percent.
West Java's Life Expectancy (Eo) 2019 is 72.85 higher than East Java's 71.18. Also reflected in the figures of the Human Development Indexs (HDI). West Java HDI reaches 72.03 while East Java of 71.50.

From the economic side. East Java is much larger achievement in term of GRDP compare to West Java. The GRDP of East Java of 2 352.4 trillions rupiahs in 2019. While the figures of West Java in 2019 reached 2.125.2 trillion rupiahs. These two figures calculated using the current price. It means the valuation made on goods and services at the current years'price. In term of Economic Growth 2019, East Java of 5.52 percent was higher compared to West Java of 5.07 percent.

From these indicators used above. It is clear that from the demographic and social point of view, West Java province is larger and in some cases better than East Java. But from the economic-accumulation point of view, East Java is larger than West Java. Also..number of villages in East Java of 8 501 villages outstripped number of West Java villages of 5957 according to the last Village Potensial Census ( Podes) 2018.
